I finished my business plan last week!!! Alright! I am going to do it part time on location until I get enough clientell to support myself. I have my camera already and am working on getting some backdrops and props. My main focus is going to be pet photography. Pets alone or with the family. I am looking to get some information on portable lighting equipment. I am going to need more direct light rather than flashes to prevent the pets eyes from glaring. I did some research some years back on something bee. It was fairly decently priced and now I can't think of what its called. Anyway, please let me know what would be the best lighting I could get for a decent price.

I have a pair of the B400's and they work just plain great. They're strobes, though. They'll flash just like a speedlite. If you want continuous lighting, maybe some quartz monolights or just simply..light!

Thats it! alienbees!!! I knew it was bees something. Thanks for the info. I've been shooting with natural light and flash for many many years. I figure I should start to actually look professional before they see the shots.

Yep, that's just the way it is. Most people seem to want to see big, fancy expensive equipment. You know what the most professional looking accessory is to me, though? An assistant.

When you say on location, do you mean they will mostly be outdoor shoots?

Probably, I know I will have natural light outdoors, but I also plan to do some inside work too. For instance for the holidays, by the Christmas tree or fireplace. Or possibly inside with my back drop in which I will need lighting. Basically I need to know what is best to start with. I don't want to spend all kinds of money on the completely wrong lighting set.

If you'll do that much "on location" stuff, maybe you'd be better off with speedlights and umbrellas/lightstands, unless you can afford the vagabond system to go with the bees. Pricey.

and just a note on the Vagabond system; i was going to try to go cheap and use a car battery and power inverter....not the same thing, luckilly the inverter wasnt strong enough anyhow, but after more research, the typical off-the-shelf power inverters create "dirty energy" and will eventually fry circuit boards in stuff like the strobes. Just a heads up for anyone who looked at the Vagabond system and said "I can make that!" lol
