I took this picture in the woods right outside my office. It looks pre-historic.

And a black and white conversion:

Nice shot. Looks like you need to look out for alligators on your way to the car.

Mt. Holly is old lol. I hate that one part inbetween King st. and Mt. Holly bypass on 537... anyways i perfer the one in black and white. it makes the picture a little bit more interesting than the one in color. The misty fog also helps add to the interest of the photograph. :-)

Ok I love all the dinosaur jokes, but does anyone have any C&C for me? This is a photography forum after all! :)

I swear to God that I saw Yoda. I dig it though, wish I had some scenes like that around here, but it's desert.

Anyways, what's the best way to turn a color photo into black and white (probably in Photoshop)?? I've been dabbling in mono channel mixing and gradient maps but I like my bw photos to be pretty contrasty usually keeping as much detail as possible.

it is great over all, for me i think if the foreground was a little lighter in that dark patch it would appear nicer.

best way i find for B&W in PS, is to desaturate the picture, what ever you do, dont use the grey mode option.

It's kinda got that LOTR feeling going for it (in the color rendition). :)

I prefer the colour one... you can see more detail in the background... kind of leads your eye to there anyway in that pic.. but in the b and w, you miss out on that.

Very small... but that's the only thing that I can think of looking at them.. it's a lovely pic Steve.. this is something that I would have blown up at home (not literally as in Jurassic park! LOL)

Have you an IR filter for your camera?

IF you do, take a shot of the same shot with the IR filter and post.

It is always interesting to see things from a different point of view. With an IR filter most plants show up as WHITE so it makes for a very different photograph.

sorry Des.. what does the IR filter do? does it reverse the colours or something? (beginner here ;))

if that's the case.. can't you just invert the colours in Photoshop?

With the IR filter the only thing that your camera picks up is InfraRed light. Most cameras won't show a thing with the lens on, so you do have to assume it takes the photo.

Then you pour it into Photoshop to find the image. I have a few (not on this computer) IR shots where it allows you to see through things you usually can't. Like skin (I have taken photos of my hands and feet and you can see the major blood veins through them), and the real reason why I got it, to see through the Coke/Pepsi bottles and get the winning ones :D LOL.

An example of a lake shot can be found here: http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/infrared/_img/030824-354-t.jpg

That's not so interesting, but the Kings Canyon in California looks awesome...

wow.. they do look good like that. Steves pic would look awesome .. you're right!

btw... that's hilarious about the cans.... did you find one?

Desmond

No, not the cans, but the bottles you can see through and read the label :D

Don't have any bottles around right now, but an example below... That's a full glass of Diet Coke, normally back, but with an IR filter you can see right through it.

What have I started :p Now everyone can pick the winning labels!!!

I like the color one myself. It would be really cool if you added pixies and fairies. It looks more magical than archaic. Maybe a little pixie dust from the back, some faeries in the foreground and a unicorn would fit as well.
