I had one for about 2 months or so and recently sold it because I really had no need for a lens of that length. Man that thing is a beast, but you wont get anything near that quality for that price. It is amazing for a 10x zoom.
Here are a couple of pics I took with it just messing around in the yard. I never actually used it for anything, I guess thats why I sold it! :)

Can't wait to see your bigma pics, Kate! ;) I think I'm as excited as you are! :D Be sure to bring it over when you get it.

Not exactly taken with a bigma, was taken with canon 70-200. But it just goes to show you that the long lens is good for more than just taking closeup shots of animals. :)

I know a couple of photographers that use the 70-200 as a portrait lens! One of the sharpest zooms out there.
I had the Nikon version of the Bigma and loved it. It isn't a low-light lens, but for wildlife and good light, it really is great. I know you will love the lens.

It's the Big Sigma lens with 10x range from 50-500mm.

Yeah, she's used it for a while. I even got to try it out. ^_^ I haven't seen any of her shots, though. Nice lens.

 Hmm, how would you use the bigma for portraiture???
That would look insane wouldn't it? Wondering around taking portraits with something so huge...

Yes, it would look strange, but I'm sure you could get some candid shots at a distance!

What's the min focus distance on this? Out of curiosity...

The minimum at 50mm is 1.0m , at 500mm it's 3m
