nice portrait. the tones are very nice and the colors are very poppie; however, it's a little on the flat side. there isn't enough variation in tones or shadows to make her look more 3d.

The flatness might be due to the color space the image is posted in.
Came across this on another forum when I asked why the posted images were all a bit lifeless.
When exporting your images for web posting be sure to set the color space to sRGB. Some apps do this automatically when you use a web setting. I am using Light Room 2 beta and it defaults to sRGB on export.
sRGB will keep the image looking like it did when you edited it.
I found that the above image looks better when downloaded and viewed offline as my viewer understands the color space attached to the image while my web browser doesn't.
Just a thought.

I supposed that can be half of it ms, but Vic is probably more on the button. I used the flash on the camera which almost guarantees flat lighting since the direction is straight on. But we were just out for a casual shoot and I didnt feel like lugging anything through fairmount park.

Your post processing probably eliminated some of the important shadows / highlights and realness that could have helped the subject pop out more.
Her neck, face, shoulder are all the same lightness/color/tone.
Don't blame it on flash. Even with on camera flash that wouldn't happen, I have many many many wedding pics to prove it. :)
Well maybe if you used direct flash that might be the culprit.
