What does subscribing to a thread mean and what does it do?

I've been using forums since 1999 and I never have used this.
I think it's so you can keep track of threads that you like or replied to instead of having to search to find the thread again.
I think, I'm not really sure though, maybe there is a better purpose for this feature..

Subscribing to a thread will place it in a list of "preferred" threads that you can access at the top of any forum page, and you can opt for e-mail alerts when someone responds to your subscribed threads.

Nice feature. :)

You also will receive an email once a week (I think, I have to check) with an overview of your subscribed threads. :)

I had to dig into it since its not really something I used alot.

It seems that when you subscribe to a thread the main reason is being that you would like to be notified when someone replies to it. So lets say you posted an image and you would like to know when someone replies to it you can subscribe. I also found out that you have 4 options of how to be notified (see screenshot).

1) Through the control panel
I never used this so I am not sure

2) Instant notification by email
You will get an email soon as someone replies to the thread for as long as its active.

3) Daily updates by email
You will get an email once per day showing you all the subscribed threads that were replied to.

4) Weekly updates by email
Same thing as Daily only once per week. :)

Interesting.

Ronald, I am not familiar with it showing subscribed posts at the top of the forum. I will have to look into that feature some more. Unless that has something to do with Option 1. ???

Quick links --->Subscribed threads

It's a drop down menu.

Oh, I misunderstood. I thought you meant it actually showed them above the forums. :)
