Need some advice on how to and what is best suited to photograph raptors (birds of prey). I want to photograph some Bald Eagles and my first attempt was less that satisfactory. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve

Well it might be better to tell us or show us what went wrong. Are we talking in the wild or in a zoo, also Raptor Rescue are nice cause they can look wild but not. Raptor Info Groups the ones that teach at schools and fairs. Research, Research and more Research. Look at back issues of Outdoor Photography or any photography link. On Yahoo I did a search and came up w/ lots of info some about F-16 Planes known as Raptor.

I am sure you have thought of the Research but sometimes you need to point out the the photographer "Hey your lens cap is on"

You are correct. I looked up some topics online and am going to put them to use this Saturday. These are wild birds that nest every season at this time down on the banks of the Illinois River.

I will be doing some Bald Eagle shots in about a month. This is done on the CT River by the CT Audubon Society. Along with a trip for ducks by my Camera Club for the release of some ducks. Today is a snowboarding Comp. rails and jumps I think should be cool. Can't wait to see you Eagles.

I am almost an exclesive animal photographer and I have had problems with raptors. 1. need at least 500th of a sec exsposure to stop the wings. 2. hard to get close enough to get good photographs 3. Not enough light in most sittutions to shoot fast enough. A tripod is a must. long focal lenght lens 400mm or greater. Location, Location, Location. Good luck look forward to seening your pics.
