I used PS/CS2 to resize.
Again, any critiques are welcome.

Thanks for the input.
I'm shooting with a Canon 20D w/ grip , 70-200 f2.8L IS, AV mode @ 2.8 @ ISO 400.
I currnetly work for one website and shoot freelance for 3 newspapers and 1 magazine so getting on the sidelines is pretty easy, avoiding a 300 lb. player takes a little more practice.

Mind if I ask your reasoning for shooting in AV mode?

Yea I have the same lens, I was thinking maybe you were using one of those larger primes.

Adaptive,

I'm self taught and learned most of my photography from books and trial and error.
But technically speaking, if you have a good lens with a set f-stop, you can keep the DOF shallow which sets your subject against an out of focus background eliminating distractions.

Yep I'm mostly self taught also.
True having a set f-stop you can keep the shallow DOF, but what happens when the lights go down and you have to use flash? :D

I don't use a flash as most events don't allow it (NCAA just banned flashes at all basketball games this year, and flashes are banned at all pro level games including boxing.). Most times I'll sacrifice grain and up the ISO to 800, 1600 or 3200, or just call in a day.

I'm not sure if I can give too many words of wisdom. I'm much better at answering questions or looking at and critiquing others photos. I am currently coaching 2 other photographers that work for me as well as helping my girlfriend transition from B+W film portraits & still-lifes to digital sports and portraits. I usually spend 2 hours after games with one of them going over their shots and telling them what they need to do to make them better, not that I am some kind of super pro myself, but it is easier for me to recognize mistakes I've made and tell them how I changed my technique to correct them. As I do more Basketball shoots (high school, college, pro) I'll post them, even though I hate covering them.
Adaptive,
While the pocketwizzards are a couple of hundred $$, the strobes and the labor to mount them in the rafters would be a couple of thousand $$. :)
