I recently bought a 24-70 2.8 L because this is my favorite local length and my Tamron 28-75 2.8 slow ass focus was just not cutting it. When I did my first shoot with the lens I was VERY disappointed, soft wasn't the word. I did most of the shoot wide open for background control reasons. I could not beleive how poorly this lens performed. Anyway, I did some tests and realized that the lens was backfocusing:

Anyway, I live fairly close to the canon service center in Jamesburg, NJ (about 45 minutes). So I decided I was going to take a ride over and see if they could help. Well I was pleasently suprised at their service. They were kind enough to take the lens AND my camera in for service. The camera has been out of warranty for god knows how long. They calibrated, cleaned, updated the firmware, and replaced the motordrive for FREE. I took the lens home today and did a quick test shot outside.

Here is a couple quick shots I took before I came in to go to bed. These are right out of the camera with NO post processing. I am very happy with these, what do you think?

awsome they would give that kind of service, it is too bad not all service centers are willing to do that!

looks like the servicing did some good!

The 24-70L is an absolute gem. I've owned many (don't ask), and each was perfect as perfect could be. Oh, and if you think it's sharp on its own, try it in a studio or even just with flash. Super sharp. I'd go so far as to say "prime" sharp.

Yeah, I switched to Canon earlier this year, and I havent regretted it yet.
The 24-70 glass is so so so nice, although the 20D crop is beginning to irritate me.

Just had a call from Canon today, 24-70 was back-focusing to the max, so they had to calibrate it & cleaned my sensor at the same time. 3 1/2 weeks later, and finally I have my camera & lenses back - just in time for a double header of weddings this weekend.

Apparently, there isn't an international warrenty on digital bodies, but lucky for me, the lenses are under international warrenty. Phew! I thought it was going to be an expensive repair!

This is a great lens. I rented the 24-70L to shoot my friend's brother's wedding two weeks ago. I'm still processing the photos from it, but that's another story. I was amazed at how sharp this lens was. Not that I regret getting the 24-105L, but just using this lens for one day, I was like, WOW! Great lens. I love the bokeh on it, too.

24-70L is a great, "Must Have" lens if you're a canon shooter. It was one of my first lenses and I use it often, I don't know what I would do without it.
