Hi guys... just wondering if you recommend putting your 'stamp' on all your pics? I've noticed that there are names on pretty much all of the pics going up in these forums and such, and wonder why it is that you do it? Is it so that no one steals them?
Do you think that all people should do this? (I don't mean in these forums, I mean in general... having your pics out there in the world)

my reason is not so much that people don't steal them, it's more so that people know where the image comes from and where people can view more pics and find a way to contact me.
That's why I have my web address on mine. I know alot of people and myself personally see a cool shot on the internet so I right click and save it. Who knows maybe 10 months later I look at it and if it doesn't have any kind of marking I don't know who to contact if I want some information or say I'm a potential customer and I'm lookign for great family portrait photos!! If I find one one the net and there is no identification who should I contact?!!!

You will NEVER be able to stop someone from stealing the photo. That being said I usually don't watermark my photos as I find it usually takes more attention that the actually photograph. If it were proofs for a clients shoot I ALWAYS do it, but then again I do not post photos that people pay for out of respect (unless they give me permission).
All I can say is if you decide to put a watermark make is small, out of the way of the subject and semi-transparent.

BOOM!!!!! Exactly I'm glad I'm not the only one!! Alot of dumb people in another forum ride my anus because I never post any of my wedding shots on the net so they can talk trash about me and my shots. Seriously, people pay me good ass to take their pictures.... There's NO WAY in hell i'm going to post these clients pics online and have a chance of it coming back to bite me where the sun doesn't shine!!! If it wasn't for referrals I would barely be doing any weddings so I just don't risk anything. Plus not to mention I put my watermark on all my images so people know where the come from... wow yea I'd be done if someone that paid me thousands of dollars saw their pics floating around in chat rooms and forums... That's private stuff you don't mess with.. Sorry for the rant, some people just don't understand though.

I was just curious as to why people put their names on their pics. Beginners ask these things ;)

Sorry I wasn't directing my last post towards you. Ask away, I don't consider myself a beginner or a pro, and I still ask a million questions! :) I also wonder why people put their names on their pics. Or some people even put some squiggly words that are supposed to be their personal signature. If no one can read your squiggly handwriting then what's the point of it even being on there. Also if people put their names on their pics what's the point? Maybe I guess someone who admires the pic could google search the name and something might pop up. I dunno, personally I like to make it clear who made the pic. I don't have anything on my website and i'm not on any search engines but my site actually gets a very large amount of hits since I don't advertise at all i'm 99% sure most of those hits come from people seeing my pictures.... :D

hey that's alright Adapt... I knew that wasn't at me as such... ;)
I guess it just comes down to peoples own choice hey... everyone has their own reasons, and I'm sure no one will be stealing my pics! LOLOL
