here is a shot that i took last year... i liked it back when i shot it but it was looking a little flat, so i tried to make it stand out more o.O tell me what you think:

i dunno if i like how i croped the new one... what do u think? and do u think i should add more contrast? o.O thanks a lot for your help.

I can't believe this thread hasn't been responded too... sorry dude...
I actually prefer the first one.. I think because it has more of the trees roots in it and more depth for the background...
It's good close up like the second, but needs more in the pic.. perhaps not crop anything off the rhs?
Perhaps a title like 'Shazza loves Dazza' lolol

I prefer the 2nd one because it brings into view the subject matter better. The subject is not the trees, its the carvings. Great shot.

I like the graininess of the second but the cropping of the first.

I personally still like the first shot, but with the carvings in the tree, if you still have the color version to leave the true colorings of the carvings in place and B&W the rest of the shot.
Or you can go back and mask/color the carvings and make them stand out. Just a subtle hint of yellows/browns to show that those are 'real'.
