Thread: 70-200 ??

  1. 70-200 ??

I am in the market for a 70-200. It is not a lens I would probably use a lot but it would def come in handy. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG MACRO HSM?? and if you have some samples that would be great. I can get a decent deal on a used one right now, but I am unsure if I should just wait till I can get a canon.

  2. Katescape has one. Uses it a lot, too. I can only reaaaally speak for the Canon 70-200 2.8L IS, but I'll tell ya...it's one dreamy piece of glass. Pricey as all get out, but worth every single cent.

  3. I wish I could afford the Canon IS, but I'm really impressed with the Sigma. The athletic department at D'youville college was also impressed and wanted a CD for their banquet. Here's a couple basketball pics...

  4. Thanks for the info, the canon 2.8 IS is a lovely lens. But for as much I am going to use it (which is not often) it doesn't pay for me to get it. I was contemplating picking up a used f4 non-IS. They are affordable and from what I hear nice and sharp.

  5. Very sharp, indeed. $500 seems to be the ridiculous used price; I think it should be closer to $450 (they're around $550 new).

Anyway, it's a good bet. The Sigma is nice for a couple hundred more and you get the 2.8. I've actually seen them go as low as $580-600 for a used one.

She doesn't do sports as a rule. It was just a visit, during which I believe a friend's child played in the game. She shot it for them.

I have had a few Sigma lenses in the past and they were far from ****. The 50-500 was actually VERY suprising for a 10x zoom.

  10. Nothing wrong with Sigma lenses at all. I've owned four of them now, and they were all just fine. 20 1.8, 30 1.4, 24-70 2.8, and 150 macro.
