Thread: MSI at the Electric Factory - Philadelphia

  1. MSI at the Electric Factory - Philadelphia

I'm going to see MSI (mindless self indulgence) at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia tomorrow night. I'm debating bringing my camera.. I have a feeling they won't let me in with it.... And if they do, I wonder how much if I'm going to feel like snapping pictures, and how many giggle jumpy teeny girls are going to be near me bumping into me every second.. Wish I had a time machine...

I guess I should probably call the place and see if I can bring my camera.. :/

Vic... Anyone...? Any advice, I'm sure someone here has been to the electric factory before...?

  2. I have been there before but never inquired about bringing a camera. I would have def called first because you dont want to leave your baby in the car by herself!

  3. yeah the site said no cameras, so I didn't even bring our little compact camera. But I saw tons of people with them... And when we were leaving I saw a guy with a canon and a 70-200

  4. Maybe he had a photo pass from the venue/record company or management.

  5. yeah i donno, he just looked like a regular dood.
He actually looked very unexperienced, so I dunno.

  6. Next time, call the bands publicist ahead of the gig, and tell them you are shooting for one of the local dailys as a stringer (for that matter, contact a local daily and offer to cover the show for them), or for a local small press rag, most times a publicist will opt to have as much promo for the band as possible. Once you start working as a stringer for one of the dailys, publicists get to Know you, and start sending you bio packs in advance, complete with CD's, etc.
Usually you can get the bands info from their label (manager, publicity, etc.)
Photo passes usually come with a plus one ticket (you'll need a writer to accompany you, yes?)
i worte a blog on Performance imagery, from obtaining passes, shooting, selling images, etc.
I'll have to post it. Good luck with it in the future...nothing beats the thrill of shooting live musicians, especially when you have a passion for music.

Very good advice! Will have to contact you next time a band/dj I like is in the area so I can get some more advice.

last month my favorite DJ Tiesto was at the same venue and tickets were only $40 online, but I waited too long and they were sold out before I had a chance to get them.
So being a big Tiesto fan I showed up the day of the event and had to pay the scalpers $150 per ticket, one for me and one for my gf.
Sucks but it was a small price to pay for seeing my favorite DJ right in front of my face, we walked seriously right up to the front of the stage and could see the sweat dripping from his face.. It was awesome!!!

  8. sounds like the $150.00 each was worth every penny then, to get an experience like that.

Yeah, I just wish I had a camera with me, I even would have been happy to have my little pocket camera with me.
All I had was my blackberry and the vid quality is far from great.

But check this video out if you have a couple minutes, you can get a feel for what the show was like.
I know you might not be into the music but i bet 3 or 4 minutes into the vid you'll be tapping your feet.
