Thread: Media Preferances

  1. Media Preferances

It seems odd here...... No questions, comments, needs in terms of printing at all in half a year? Seems a bit odd?

So in the interest of getting some movement ( beginning to sound familiar?) I figure I would pose a question....

For those of you that print your own work, what is your favorite media? Cotton Rag? Smooth Fine Art? Luster? Semi Gloss? Glossy? Which brand? Why?

I've been in this groove lately that I have experimented little in terms of media lately so I'd love to hear what you all have tried...

  2. hands down, Hahnemuhle is the best paper to spend your money on. it's expensive, true; however, it gives you the best quality and sharpest image reproduction. they are 100% archival and water and smug resistant. So far I've only used 2 types of their papers. their photo rag which is a cotton rag paper that yields a beautiful image and the other paper I've used is more like a water color paper that has a bit of texture to it. They have glossy papers that i heard are simply amazing so i can't wait to try them out. I print using an Epson Stylus 2200, and 4800. but i only used that paper when I'm either selling the work or for important projects. as far as regular everyday printing i love the epson enhanced matte paper... it gives you very vibrant colors for a matte paper and it's very sharp. i also use this luster paper buy some international papers or something like that... it's very nice also. Ilford has a great Smooth Glossy paper which makes for good work prints and TFP work prints... i say that because the paper tends to get a little blocked up in the blacks but still provides a great image but i would only use it to put in my portfolio or use for TFP work.
I'm the photographer, Not the camera.
