Thread: Removing background from images

  1. Removing background from images

    Hi,

I am designing a catalog however the photos have a background, for
example the pictures are of shoes but i can see the table the shoe is
sitting on and the background behind the shoe, is there a way to cut
the shoes out in Photoshop so the background is removed?

    Thanks

  2. Check out this tutorial, it should help.

Also you can do a google search on isolating images in photoshop. You should be able to find lots of answers.

Good luck and post your image, let us help you.

  3. A difficult one this one, the best way is to always photograph the image on a plain colour background, usually white to make the process easier.

    You can then either:

Literally try to erase the background using the eraser or paint tool.

Layer the image over a white background and use the layer mask tool to slowly paint away the background. This is a good tool as you can easily correct mistakes.

Or the Extract tool under filters. This is probably the easiest to use, you draw round the item you want to keep and Photoshop automatically tries to remove the background, but it can leave bits or cut into the image at times.

All 3 are very time consuming and require a steady hand, but these are the methods I've used in the past.
