  1. Urban Landscapes

Attachment 1044Beirut, shot with an N90s, tmax 3200 asa B&W film (love the grain it produces!)

Film grain still kicks ass...but with digital, it's still "noise"...
As useful as the 3200 TMax was shooting low light performance imagery, I still love using it in daylight situations, BRIGHT daylight even, just to get that surreal grain, that dramatic feel. Every shooter should experience traditional imagery, traditional darkroom and toning techniques. Amazing how much it will improve your digital imagery. And this may irritate a few, but being old school film, if you've never shot any film, only digital...you're not quite a "Real" photographer...(ducks)

    Happy Trails brothers and sisters!

  2. I haven't shot 3200 TMax in years, actually I still have some in my fridge!
I have shot some film that was from the early 80's expecting it to not work but it worked just fine!

I just don't know if there are any darkrooms around here anymore.

  3. Have to say, though, Alien Skin makes a software called Exposure (now Exposure 2) which is intended to replicate different films in digital images. As a film purists for so many years, I was very skeptical...but have to admit, I was genuinely surprised with the results. Even though I still have my darkroom, been using it less and less...I'm sure you've heard of it, but in case not, have a look. As a film shooter in the past, you may really enjoy it!

  4. No I've never heard of it. Don't know if I want to try that route though.
I have these slr's and rolls of film sitting around, might as well get some use out of them some day.

Perfect look to go with the photo, I like it

  6. Maybe since I never seriously shot with film, but I rarely like grain. However I do like it in this photo, I just dont ever use it as a mood setting in any of my photos.

  7. In Black and white film, there is grain...in digital, it's just *ucking noise.
In colour film, it's just a bad photo.

I use high speed black and white film in readily available light, as well, just to get the grain qualities. Sometimes it adds surreal drama to a print. I rarely enjoy the "noise" of a digital image, however, so am with ya on that one.
