Awesome! Is he still singing his old classics? I used to love Billy Idol, even had all the spiked wrist bands and stuff to try to be like him when I was a teenager!

    Some great pics here!

  5. excellent compositions. again, but serious sharpness issues here on at least half of them...the first shot would be really dynamic if it was in sharp focus.

I am guessing its really difficult to maintain any kind of shutter speed with this low light. How do you deal with this? I mean do you just shoot at ISO 3200 ??

  7. Probably should have a pushed a higher ISO but then noise could be an issue. Need to balance between shutter and lens speed. The sharpness critiques here are due to a wide open lens at 2.8. I need to keep shutter above 250 to minimize movement of the performers. These rock stars are constantly moving. It's is tough... Thanks for the interest. Planning a night shoot when I go to Vegas later this month.

Sometimes you can make the blur work to your advantage. My camera has a setting that allows me to keep the shutter open for a bit longer than the flash. This allows me to create a sharp image followed by a trail. The effect can be quite effective, though there is a good deal of trial and error involved. Only one in five or ten will look good, but that one is usually excellent. It conveys a feeling of movement that is missing from shots where the performer is frozen in place.
