Looks like something from "Gone with the Wind!" Amazing clouds.

  3. Beautiful shot. At first glance I got a Sci fi feel. Like some kind of solar/firestorm that was rolling in.

  4. those are some magnificent cloud formations, and vibrant colours...just beautiful, braddah...

I think the fact that this shot appears to be missing something will prevent it from being a success on its own merits. However, if I were you I would be keeping this in my back pocket knowing that one day you will have a subject that requires a magnificent backdrop and you will have just the thing.

  6. That sunset is simply drop-dead gorgeous! What is it missing?

Keep a couple of things in mind: 1) as a photographer you are responsible for everything in your image, and 2) everything in the image must contribute to your composition. Compositions are made up of lines, movement, balance, color, texture and more. You have several things going well for you here; namely dramatic color and unusual cloud formations. What you are missing are movement and balance. In a sense you have too much movement; there are lines going every which direction instead of leading our eyes along a predetermined path. The result is rather busy and disjointed.
Most photographs, though not all, are a juxtaposition of elements, balancing one against others. You have two primary elements here: clouds and trees. Yet these elements are not carefully composed. If you want to take your photography to the next level you are going to have to consider every element carefully before you push the shutter button.

  8. Fibonacci, thanks for going into detail concerning my question. You provided some good information, and it's much appreciated.

Good picture, and somethign you can use as a backdrop later. The only thing I would comment is I would have moved my position if possible to get rid of the top of the small tree/bush that is on the bottom of the frame.
What was the meta data for such a picture, the color is outstanding!

  10. Great shot

I can see you selling copies of this as "fine art"
I have seen people sell much less for a lot of $$$

Snapaphoto is right, this would make a great backdrop in another pic
If you are willing to send me a high res copy I would love to use this sky in a future automotive shoot!
