I am posting this image in the section marked 'Black and White' because there isn't one marked 'Infrared' though that is exactly what this is. This photo is taken of light that exists beyond the visual range; where living organisms reflect more infrared light than inanimate objects. That is why the grass is so white and the fence dark, as opposed to regular black and white were they would have been about the same shade.

Speaking of the fence, that is what attracted me to this image. I loved the line of the fence, carrying the eye from near to far where the trees mimic the clouds. What I felt most compelling at the time was the fact that I could not explain why I liked the image; just that it 'felt right.' It is only now, as I describe the image, that I am able to put into words the reasons for that feeling.

Is this shot with a on lens filter or via a converted DSLR?

I use a filter but I'm saving to get a converted DSLR. As you know, there are huge problems with using a filter and exposure times can get very long even on sunny days. However, I discovered I could see a faint image in my digital viewer even with the filter on which allow me to compose. Converted cameras have exposure times that are much shorter and allow you to shoot without a tripod. Until I can get one I doing the best I can with what I have. I'll post some more. I think you'll agree I've stumbled onto something that is working for me.

Yes. The primary one being that you can shoot in IR color which adds a whole new layer of strangeness. You can also work with a wider range of filters. The filter I use cuts off light at the top of the visual range, about 700 nanometers, but there are some that go even higher, over 900 nm. Light gets really strange at this level. For one thing, it whistles through cotton like it wasn't there. (I refuse to address the moral responsibility here, but you can imagine the results if used inappropriately.) Also, sunglasses look clear; you can literally see someone's eyes through their sunglasses. Strange and remarkable indeed.

Mostly speed, slightly better quality, also shooting with a converted DSLR you can quickly & easily switch lenses & not have to worry about buying multiple size filters, try to find a IR filter for a 15mm fisheye, it aint happening....

fibonacci you should try doing a IR HDR..
There is no detail in your grass, next time try shooting multiple exposures and merge them together to get even highlights in both the lights and darks... That's what the pros do, I've seen some really wicked shots done this way.
