Thread: Making Money $$$$

  1. Making Money $$$$

Everyone always want more of it. I know I do. I saw this segment on ABC morning news " Good Morning " or what ever they call it. How to make money in hard time from home. One was a web site called
    www.seed.com
It is run by AOL (AOHELL) I know but it is looking for photos of all differant things. From Photos of Salt paying $0.00 to a Photo of a Newsman, Pay $500.00. (we all want that one) but it is a place where you can get your work to be seen. It is all web based stories. And if you did better then I in GRAMMER ,SPELLING AND ENGLISH then you can write stories too and make even more.
Just wanted to pass this on

  2. Its basically a new twist on stock photography, but more leaning toward getting freelancers I suppose. Let us know if you sell them any photographs and how it works out. I know Savona makes some good money from stock photography, let's see if he will chime in on this one.

  3. Well I would say to everyone... If its AOL run away! That would be my first thought, however being that I can use some extra money I signed up for seed at the recommendation of a friend. I was excited because they needed some photos that I have had in my library for years. They were offering $30 for these photos so I started submitting one.

I STOPPED DEAD WHEN I GOT TO THE PART THAT SAID:
(Below text taken directly from seed.com website - please see screenshot)

If accepted for publication and AOL elects to acquire an Exclusive License, this gallery will pay $30.00.
If accepted for publication and AOL elects to acquire a Limited Exclusive License, this gallery will proceed to an AOL-owned site, where it will generate a share of the Calculated Earnings the article earns based on advertising and page views.
If rejected for publication, You will be notified through Your Dashboard and You will retain all rights to Your photos.

So what this means is you will only get the $30 if they decide they want to OWN the image. Exclusive License means you will not be able to show, use, or sell this image anywhere else. For me this was a deal breaker as MOST of my images make $30 fairly quickly on other stock photography sites and I still retain the rights and most importantly, the right to sell it again (and again, and again).

So if your looking to make a few extra bucks on some of your images I suggest microstock over this new seed thing. Although many people probably have different opinions, this is mine.

Some good Stock Photography sites that can have you making some decent money quickly:

    ShutterStock - My personal favorite

    Dreamstime

    iStockPhoto
    Canon 5d · 17-40mm f4L · 24-70mm 2.8L · 70-200mm f4L · 50mm f1.8 II · 35mm f2 · 550 ex

The story is told of a famous baby food company company that held a photo competition. (You can guess which one.) Part of the entry required that you sign away the rights to the image, regardless of whether or not you won. A panel of judges chose a winner and issued prizes. However, the board of directors chose a different image for their advertising campaign, the reason for the contest from the beginning. They have now been using that image for decades spending many millions of dollars placing it on jars, billboards, magazines and more. The photographer in a case like this would normally be entitled to a king's ransom in commissions, but since they signed their rights away they never received a dime.
$30 is way to small a figure for the rights to any of my images...yours, too.

I agree, this is why I wanted to make sure it was known.
