Been away for a couple of weeks but need a little help with PP

This is going to sound silly and as a 6'3" tall big guy I can't believe I am asking for help.

I lost my step dad in an airplane accident at Thanksgiving last year, and I have a picture of he and the little one that was just a snapshot taken. I now want to touch it up so I can then blow it up as large of a picture as possible. I think the little one's skin tones are not right, and the typical pp work needs to be done, maybe even trying to fix the squinting of her eyes.

The gotcha is I pull it up in CS4 and mind just crazy thinking about missing him and the great times we had. Then before I know it I sat staring at the picture for hours with no work done to it. So right now I can't edit the photo, as I want it to be as perfect as can be. We want to present it as a mother's day present for my step mom.

So my question is, anyone interested in helping adjust the picture? Sorry but I am uploading the picture in full resolution, and it was only taken with a small ps camera.

Hope this is helpful. I have not done any more than a white balance correction and a minor levels adjustment. Please accept my condolences for your loss.
