Looking For Info
This is my first post on FocusFaction, and from what I've read and seen, you guys know your stuff. I'm looking for some good information / books on studio / strobe lighting.
A little about me. I have a background in video photojournalism..( ie: TV news, magazine shows, hunting and fishing etc.) so I am familiar with lighting sets for television using Arri Softbank kits, Chimeras, FlexFils,
Fresnels, the works. I also have an understanding of light temperature and footcandles. My question...how does all of that transfer over to strobe photography? Mainly what are w/s (I'm assuming that's short for watts per second), monolight strobes, head strobes, slave strobes, you get the idea. There is a local community college that teaches this, but it's 40 miles one way and I don't have the time or money to invest in that right now. Thanks in advance for all of your responses.

Well it depends on what type of photos you are doing. If nothing needs to be stopped in frame, like a sitdown portrait . Then just use straight lights, if freezing a shot flash/ strobs lighting. Every shot will be differant. depending on the look you want. Just like in the old day do test shots to check your lighting. look at the whole photo not just the person/subject. make sure the background is the way you want it. have covers for your windows in the room. Any of the bight book stores will have good books on the subject and (WILL LET YOU COME IN READ TAKE NOTES AND HAVE A CUP OF COFFEE WHILE YOU KINDA STEEL FROM THEM) So make a day of it.
