Thread: Laptop & Projector - recommendations?

  1. Laptop & Projector - recommendations?

I am looking at getting a new Laptop and a Projector. (I am PC based guys, and have too many other machines that are so I can't consider a swap.) I would like to hear some ideas on Laptops (brand, cpu, LCD display etc.) that you have.

Also, I am looking at picking up a projector to expand my marketing and use at bridal shows and in presentations of images. Suggestions?

I am looking for Pro's/Con's, experiences from current users, etc. My budget for this is about 5K.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. for about $2k or less, you can get a likely more then powerful enough laptop.

I am a PC guy s well, but with Apples now able to boot to Windows, i was going to get their Macbook 13" nice size and weight, good for portability if you plan to move it around alot.

CPU's Intel still owns the mobile market, and current the desktop now

Dell laptops are actually very excellent, many may say otherwise, but most who do havent owned one in years. (and considering how many computers they sell, of course some may go bad) but their warrenties and return policies are hard to beat.

CPU - intel Core 2 Duo - fastest on the market.

Ram - if your doing alot of image editing, i would say 2G - but if you buy from an OEM, order the least amount of ram you can, then order replacement ram from a place like www.zipzoomfly.com (free shipping) or www.newegg.com (sometimes they price gouge)

Be sure to get a 7200RPM harddrive, they are little more expensive, BUT, it does help, i switched to one when i got my dell insprion from a 5400 to a 7200 60g and it made a huge diff.

If you want to run it into a projector, be sure to look into a laptop that has a seperate video card (not built in)

Sager makes some excellent laptops, their high end ones include things like raid'd harddrives (yes, you can get that in laptops now)

Did you want small? 14" - or 17" or inbetween?

  3. Mathiau,

Do you have any experience with the Sager Notebook Company?

I just got off the phone with them and I am looking at this configuration on a Notebook:

17" WUXGA; Intel P4 630 3.0GHz Processor; Nvidia 16X Graphics 512 DDR3; 2 GB DDR2 Memory; 80 GB SATA 7200 RPM SATA HD + 100 GB SATA 7200 RPM HD for Scratch and storage; XP Pro OS.

This is the first notebook I have seen with dual hard drive capabilities. I like that.

My only question at this point is about Sager.

  4. Similarly, I'm looking for a place that rents projectors, can anybody give me a heads up?

  5. Sager was a relativly new company a few years bacl, but from all i have read about them on various forums and people who have dealt with them they all praise them as being one of the top notebook makers! As well they tend to be on the edge of notebook tech, such a dual harddrive, dual vid cards etc.

Personally i do not have experience with them, but if they ever have a laptop that suits my style i am goingwith them no qeustions asked.

Did they not have any Core 2 Duo laptop's?

the 630 is a good cpu, but it may run a little warm (it is prescott based i beleive)

and a core 2 duo would give a performance increase if you plan to do some decent editing on it.

The models NP5750C and NP5760V are both 17" models with core 2 duo's in them.

  6. Update:

The Sager processor in the laptop is not a "laptop" processor, but an actual desktop processor and just as good. (Not sure now if it was a prescott, thou.)

After considering all the options, I ruled out the cost of Sager and even the nicer Dell Precision M65 workstations. Just too much money.

What I got? HP DV6135nr 15.3" with Core 2 Duo T5500 Processor, 2 Gigs. RAM, 256 Video RAM w/945 Chipset, Windows XP w/upgrade to Vista Free and a good docking station and allows me multiple monitor support and extra hard drive.

Cost: $999.00 for the laptop; 189.00 for docking station.

After using it about a week or so, I absolutely love it. Sure, coule be just a little faster if I would have spent another 1600.00, but that would have been over kill.
