Thread: Holga Time

  1. Holga Time

I recently bought a holga and took 3 snaps with it. I was excited to see what would come of this $20 peice of plastic that everyone raves about. So I was out on the driveway and forgot something in the house, I put the holga on the bed of my truck and ran in the house to get my stuff. When I came out I jumped in the truck, put it in drive, hit the gas and....

SMASH... Ohh crap, I jumped out and SMASH again... It fell off the bed onto the floor and somehow opened and film exposed, then to add insult to injury I stepped on it and cracked it.

Ohh well, I guess thats what a $20 plastic camera is good for. So I just bought a new one (a really new one, the one I bought was from a flea market for $8) from B&H.

Anyway does anyone have a Holga? What are your thoughts on them? (Since I never got to make my own decision!)

  2. Ok, another stupid question... What is a Holga?

  3. It is a very cheap plastic medium format camera with a cheap plastic lens, which has kind of a cult following.

I have only one question, WHY? Why would you want to use such a camera? I am not trying to be funny or rude, it just seems odd.

There are a couple of reasons you would use this kind of camera...

Some photographers might want to stretch themselves and try to get the best possbile picture out of a very limited camera.

Some photographers might be trying to get a degraded, dark look without excessive post processing.

Some just want to play around with it and see what happens.

I just ordered a Holga lens for my Nikon dSLR. I'm going to try for a more gothic look and would rather try to shoot it up front.

  7. Hey ms, did you ever get this lens? I am interested to see the outcome.

    Arrived today. Will play tomorrow.

This really is just the lens cut off of a Holga camera and glued to a body cap. This set-up doesn't actually mount on the camera so you have to hold it in place (easy enough to do but I wouldn't want to use in a dusty environment). I took a couple of quick shots in fairly dim lighting and it looks neat. Now I just need a model.
