What to do with shots like these???

While on a trip up to my cottage I stopped and took some pics of a truck parts yard. The shots are from across the road and it isn't a big yard so there is a fair bit of other crap in the images. Not really much I can do about it so I am just wondering what value is there is images like these?

If I ever decided to print and sell, would these have any value at all (is it worth the effort).

I am going to keep them in the growing pile of pictures but are they just taking space.

EDIT: I have noticed that my browser (Firefox) renders these a bit washy so the colours may be a little duller than the orginal.

  2. No matter what you do with these two particular photos there won't be really any value behind them.. Do you have more shots from this yard?
Main problem is the houses behind the subjects. The second one if you had the whole truck then it would be worth photoshop out the house in the back, there would be a good one there..

I think I have one with the whole truck but I do have a question...

If I photoshop out the house, what do you do with the space?

  4. Its still iffy cause for a automotive shot theres alot of little distractions in that pic that take away from it.. the board in the window, the brick and wood beside the wheel. the fence in the back ground and the house.. I know it can be hard to get good pics in some loactions like that.. From what I have seen in my experience in the automotive world, unless you find someone that is into that particular type of truck, your not really going to find a buyer.

I have sold automotive prints before and even have a few in the studio right now for sale.. but unless I can find someone into that type of vehicle they will probly sit her for a while..

Here is what i would do if that was my pic. Maybe if you could crop the truck and put it infront of a old forest of a another pic or something, see what that will look like..

Thanks for the suggestions. I have just started playing with some of the shots to see what some close cropping does. Increase saturation to blow out some of the colour, etc.

Would you mind sharing your workflow for your edit. I love the grainy texture and it sure isn't a simple black & white.

    Thanks again...

  6. Well for what i did with that shot..
    Croped it down to a 4x6 x 300dpi
Hit it with More Sharpen 3 times
up the brightness and contrast by about 15 points
    removed the color
adjusted the levels right point towards the center about 3 widths of the point
adjusted the levels center point towards the right about 2 widths of the point
Adjust Saturation and colorize to give it the color.
then last re-adjusted the contrast and brightness to my liking..
that was about it from what i remember

    Thanks for the outline.

  8. no problem even try taking the original file and crop it down as a portrait style shot and only have like the front left side of the vehcle in the shot.

You mean like this? It's one of the ways I thought of close-cropping...

This is from a different photo so there is a bit more turf in front for composition.

  10. Yup, Don't forget that photos are not limited to the 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 Genre. Even try like 5x5, 5x6 or 8x9 or 8x9.5 alows you go get more of the picture you want.. Make up any size you want. I see it all to often that people try and stick to the "Norm" of print sizes..
