Hey Don, I am glad to hear you want to share and I will be willing to help you anyway I can. It would really help if you let us know which program your using. If your using photoshop you can go to Image on the top menu then select Image Size from the drop down menu. Here you can put the dimensions you desire in. For the best results you will want to have Constrain Proportions check box checked. This way you wont skew or distort the image any. What I usually do it just size the LARGER side. So if you have an image that is 3200 height and 1700 width I would usually just resize the height to 800 pixel or so which is fine for web use.
Second the way you save it will determine the file size. A lot of folks use the save for web feature but I do not. I just select Save As then put the file type to jpeg. You will see a dialog box come up asking you to select the quality. I believe the scale is from 1-2, 1 being the smallest file and worst quality and 12 being the biggest file size and best quality. I usually pick between 8-10 depending on what file size I want.
HINT: If you move the slider and wait a second you will see what the final file size will be on the bottom of that dialog box.
I hope this helps, I cant wait to see some of your work.
BTW, I hope you will post some in the forums as well. I think the discussion that comes out of the photos helps everyone better themselves and learn new techniques.
