Thread: Cleaning your sensor

  1. Cleaning your sensor

How many of you have cleaned your sensor yourself? I'm debating on doing it as there is no place around here that does it and I don't want to have to send my camera off to have it done. I have all of the stuff to do it, I'm just a bit leary.

  2. DONT BE! It simple and there is a huge misconception that you are actually touching the sensor and you are not. There is a peice of glass, cover if you will, over the sensor and that is what you will be cleaning. It is not as sensitive to pressure as you would think. I actually press fairly hard when cleaning mine. I would say it is more prone to scratching. So just be careful if you have been around sand.

BTW, I am assuming you are using the wands.

NOTE: Try a blower first and test against a nicely lit white wall or sky.

  3. Thanks. I'm using the wand and the eclipse stuff. I'm gonna give it a shot this week and hope for the best. I tried a blower and it helped a little, but I've got a giant spec at the top of my sensor that's driving me nuts!!!

  4. So how did your cleaning go? I use Eclipse as well, but not the wands, I just use a cut-down rubber spatula (a buck for a four-pack at Wal-Mart) and some Pec Pads. I don't clean them as much as I probably should, though; I shoot mainly wide open so I don't see the dust anyway.
